Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4, II./JG 3, Saumer, France, August 1940.

This particular aircraft, werk nummer 1480, flown by Oberleutnant Franz von Werra, was shot
down by a Spitfire of No. 234 squadron, flown by Flt. Lt. P.C. Hughes, on the 5th September 1940.

Hughes himself - who had 14 kills - was shot down and killed two days later.

Von Werra managed to crash land at Winchett Hill, Marden, in Kent and was captured. He later
became famous as 'The one who got away' - the only prisoner of the Western Allies to escape
from a prisoner-of-war camp.

Von Werra became the Gruppenkommandeur of I/JG 53, flying Bf109F's, but in October 1941 he
was shot down and killed off the Dutch coast.

I hope you all like the skin,
